I assumed
That there were two of us on board this ship

Two each paddling in one direction
Two in the watchtower for each other’s protection

But it turns out

This friendship is barely a friend-dinghy
And I am drowning in this sea of all your needs

See, I assumed
That there were two of us on board this ship

Two to batten hatches when the storm is long
Two to hold for life when waves form strong

But it turns out

This relationship is only a relation-oar
So I’m rowing out here in circles while you’re sitting on the shore

And yes I know
What they say assuming does
But this one’s only half the price
Because one of us already was
