The lines of our bodies may be brittle bones
But I forget how human they are –
Forget the lies that lie in the crevices
And the blindness that binds us together

Faith in bones is like faith in water –
Both of life and of destruction
Like golden statues with flowing veins
But no more the fair to bow to

Bones that break and words that fail –
We cling to metal with Achille’s heart
Searching for one we won’t spear ourselves with
But falling repeatedly upon the sword
